BSCAI’s Executive Management Conference is just around the corner! Here at BSCAI headquarters, we can’t wait to gather in Louisville for three days of education and networking with BSC leaders and their management teams.
As we get closer to the event, we caught up with Scott Tackett, senior advisor at Violand Management Associates and a speaker at Executive Management Conference. Tackett, a leading authority in human resources, organizational development and organizational leadership, has worked with many businesses and professionals to help them achieve maximum growth. At Executive Management Conference, he will discuss recruiting and onboarding in the BSC industry.
We asked Tackett a few questions to get to know him and provide a sneak peek of what he’ll share at Executive Management Conference.
How did you get into the human resources arena?
I originally started out in operations at a manufacturing company and was asked to move to an HR role after completing my BS degree in human resources. I had determined while attending college that my real passion was working in the people side of the business, not the machinery.
How important are the recruitment and onboarding stages in professional development?
In today’s business world, and with the labor market being what it is, I think both recruitment and onboarding are without a doubt the most critical functions that leaders must embrace if they have any hope of being successful moving forward.
What should businesses keep in mind when it comes to recruitment in this tight labor market?
I have three recommendations:
1. Determine the best way to recruit from the candidate’s perspective.
- Use mobile technology to the fullest extent possible.
- Communicate the entire process from start to finish so the candidate isn’t in the dark about the steps of your hiring process.
- Follow up, follow up, follow up! Make a decision and move quickly to secure the candidate and move forward.
2. Market your brand.
- Sell yourself and the company.
- Explain in detail your mission, vision and core values, and give examples of how you and your employees live them every day.
3. Always be recruiting and ensure that everyone else in the organization is recruiting as well.
Can you share a sneak peek of the ideas you’ll discuss during your talk?
I’ll discuss four key areas that will ensure success going forward:
1. Review appropriate recruiting strategies to overcome the current challenges and obstacles that are being faced in the service industry.
2. Reinforce the critical importance of a formal, effective onboarding process.
3. Emphasize the importance of managing and coaching all employees.
4. Underscore the importance of dealing with poor performers early and as often as needed.
What’s the number-one reason attendees should be excited for your talk?
The presentation will provide real-life, proven solutions to this very complex challenge that we all are facing.
