What are some trends you see developing in the building service contracting industry?
There are some different trends that you are seeing within the building service contracting industry. One of the major trends is having more attention to detail based on their clients and their requests. There are additional responsibilies that are put of the building service contractors today to take the next steps related to more overall cleanliness and a part of that has been due to the pandemic. This also means that the building service contractors are being required to produce documentation as to who cleaned and when they did it. This puts more backend processing which you are then seeing the building service contractor try and automate this through technology.
How would you describe your leadership style?
In terms of leadership style, I tend to lead by example. It’s important to put in the work and have your team, follow your lead. In addition, the ability to be level headed in order to handle any and all scenarios can go along way. Less talk and more action makes things a bit more real for your team.
What is one challenge you’ve experienced in your career, and how did you handle it?
How best to scale our business. I have addressed this by surrounding myself with people who have experience in scaling businesses and have the long term goals in mind. You always want to be in a hiring mode to find the right people to help your company move to the next level.
Any advice for new BSCs coming into the industry?
Your time is extremely valuable and you have to find ways to streamline your processes, whether that be hiring, prospecting, communication methods, processing payroll, etc. Look at he things that you are doing manually and how it affects your time. In order to scale and grow you need to automate your processes and eliminate your manual activties. This allows you to grow your business, retain your employees and customers.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve received in your career?
Never get too high and never get too low. Nothing is ever as good as it seems but things are also never as bad as they seem. There will be ups and downs. Things can be going really well, but at the flip of a hat they can be turned upside down. No matter what, you have to keep pushing and moving forward, always remaining level headed. Sometimes the things you feel are the worst at that time end up being your greatest blessings.
