Shifting From Exhaustion to Expansion: Executive Management Conference Preview With Caleb Campbell

In today’s fast-paced, competitive landscape, it can be easy for leaders to find themselves burnt out and struggling to balance work and life. When dealing with one demand after another, they can feel like they’re being pushed past their limits.

In this Executive Management Conference preview, hear from Caleb Campbell, who will host a session titled, “High Capacity Leadership: The Key To Thriving Leadership in a Demanding World.”

Campbell will move beyond cliches and offer practical instructions for managing performance to reach full potential. In this sneak peek, learn about the power of self-awareness and gaining control of your life.

What is your background on your session’s subject? What excites you most about being in this field?

As a West Point graduate, former Army Officer and NFL athlete, I’ve always had a deep desire to surpass expectations. But in my pursuit of success and ignoring my well-being, I eventually found myself teetering on the edge of burnout. This not only affected my performance as a leader and athlete, but it greatly reduced the overall quality of my life.

As I travel the country and speak to organizations, I see a lot of leaders in the same place. They want to exceed expectations. They want to maximize the potential of everyone on their team. They want to perform at the highest level. But they feel maxed out in their capacity. What excites me the most is that I get to deliver a message and offer a framework that helps leaders break through this challenge.

What can attendees look forward to during your session?

I didn’t get into keynote speaking to offer clichéd “do better, be better” advice. Because of that, attendees can look forward to a transformational, honest, moving and inspiring session. I do my best to blend compassion, emotional intelligence, authentic storytelling and practical wisdom. I create a clear and compelling roadmap that helps leaders better understand how they can look within to expand their capacity, elevate their performance and most importantly — enhance their well-being. By attending my session, I hope attendees will see that everything we need to thrive through today’s challenges is already within us. We just have to have the courage to look within.

Is there a particular topic in your session you think is especially interesting?

I always love talking about the power of self-awareness. For us to shift from exhaustion to expansion, we have to change how we respond to the inevitable challenges that we face in our lives. Self-awareness is how we do that. What I like to communicate to people is that I used to be the least self-aware person in the world. No, seriously. It was bad. But over time, I taught myself how to become more self-aware. It’s very similar to growing muscle in the gym. The more we work it, the greater it grows. It’s through this awareness that we can stop being a prisoner of our circumstances and become pioneers for the future.

Once known as “America’s Athlete,” Caleb Campbell is a West Point graduate and former Army officer who became the second player in the history of West Point to ever be selected in the NFL draft. He was also the first player given the permission to play and serve simultaneously. under a new policy implemented by the Department of Defense (DOD). Campbell’s dream came to a halt when the DOD rescinded that policy hours before he signed his first NFL contract, launching him into his own internal war that would almost cost him his life. While serving his country, Campbell kept his NFL dream alive and eventually found himself playing in the NFL, demonstrating to audiences everywhere how facing our fears, committing to mental and emotional health and staying authentic will make us stronger — even in our weakest moments. Far from offering clichéd "do better, be better" advice, Campbell skillfully guides his audience through discussions on vulnerability, emotional intelligence, heart-centered leadership and whole-person success. Above all, Campbell’s message acts as a powerful catalyst for internal transformation — fostering emotional, relational and collective growth on an unmatched scale.
